Arenas would't mind last place Thu, Nov 20 2008 5:01 PST
Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas doesn't seem to have much confidence in his teammates as he recovers from knee surgery, and he doesn't think failure would be such a bad thing this year, according to the AP. "If this is one of those years where we don't make the playoffs or we finish in last place ... that's what happened to San Antonio and that's how they got Tim Duncan and look at them now," Arenas said.
The Scoop: His reasoning isn't irrational, but in the future he may want to keep thoughts like that to himself with some NBA teams having a reputation for tanking at the end of their seasons to get a chance for a higher pick in the draft.

HoopsWorld.com - I do a regular radio show in the San Antonio area, and this morning we were talking about the way the Western Conference - including the Spurs - has fallen off dramatically this year. Unlike last season, when the playoff positions weren't determined until the last game was played on the last day of the regular season, this year's West seems like a let down. More... HoopsWorld.com - We Know Who Is At The Bottom: There is a lot of discussion over who is the best team in the NBA, but after last night's 108-88 manhandling at home by the Los Angeles Clippers there is no doubt the worst team in the league is Kevin Durant's Oklahoma City Thunder. HoopsWorld.com - In a world where fortune and fame are often held at a premium over consistency and substance, very few people are willing to surpass the former to achieve the latter. More... Thursday, November 20, 2008
HoopsWorld.com - Larry Unhappy: Larry Hughes is the first Chicago Bulls' player to speak up about his role in a team struggling to find its groove. Clearly last night's drubbing in Portland won't help an already tense situation, but Hughes vented his frustrations over playing time to reporters saying something had to change. The first response from Bulls' fan will likely be trade him, trade him now - however ,unless Larry plays and establishes value moving his remaining two-years and $26 million will be almost impossible. The Bulls got run in huge fashion last night, after giving up 34 points in the first quarter to their own 14. From there the chasm never closed. You know it's not your night when Ike Diogu goes 3 for 3 from the field in 7 minutes of play. On the Hughes front, quietly Bulls' players have "grumbled" about their roles and how they are being used by rookie head coach Vinny Del Negro. There absolutely is not a revolt in the works, but there is again a discomfort from guys who expected this to be a year in which they would compete for a playoff bid, but are again failing short of their own expectations. The Bulls are indeed forcing the issue with rookie Derrick Rose, whose stats have been impressive, but in last night's game the point differential when he was in the game was minus 34, meaning he hurt the team the most last night. Rose on the season is carrying an 18.1 PER rating from ESPN's John Hollinger, ranking him 12th among all Point Guards, just behind Milwaukee's Ramon Sessions and just in front of Phoenix's Steve Nash. The Bulls have lost two straight, face the Golden State Warriors on Friday, and remain on the road for the balance of the month. More... Thursday, November 20, 2008
